Dr. Blessyl believes in the importance of addressing the mind body connection.
Her integrative treatment style incorporates the chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture, fascial releasing techniques including Active Release Technique ® and Kinesio Taping. She focuses on educating about breath and stress management and prescribes Pilates to design unique rehabilitation programs.
A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment done by hand on the spine and other joints in the body. It involves moving an unaligned or restricted joint using a quick, high velocity thrust. Spinal adjustments are an authorized Act in Ontario, requiring a high degree if skill, and only a few professions (including chiropractors) are legally allowed to perform this act.
When treating infants and children, the chiropractic technique applied is far gentler to adapt to their developing spines. The contact used are my finger or one hand and gentle sustained pressure equivalent to light pressure on a tomato’s skin or eyeball is applied to the misaligned area.
Like a deep tissue massage, myofascial therapy helps to release tight muscles, break up scar tissue and restore circulation and motion to dysfunctional muscle or connective tissues. Dr. Blessyl uses various techniques she developed over the years and Active Release Techniques: a patented, soft tissue system/movement that treats problems with muscles tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. Needling acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system that either change the experience of pain or influences the body’s own internal regulating system and natural healing abilities. An electric current may be used on the needles to further stimulate acupuncture points. Recent studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in managing many musculoskeletal disorders such has headaches, migraines, neck and shoulder tension, injuries to the back, knee and shoulder to name a few.
A uniquely designed elastic tape is applied to areas of the body to positively influence muscle, fascia, tendon, ligament, circulation and pathological movement patterns. This tape helps to extend the effects of your treatment, with the application lasting 3-5 days on average. Taping applications can reduce swelling, scar tissue, improve posture and activation specific muscles in the body. For more information go to: http://www.kinesiotaping.com
